Pet Owners Advice:
Otitis:
Today we examined your animal and found an inflammation in the outer ear.
Keep in mind that:
+ The treatment is individual based on the cause of the inflammation and how inflamed the ear is.
+ Make sure that your animal cannot scratch its ear as it aggravates the irritation.
Use a collar or other protection if the animal itches.
+ Do not give cleaning or ear drops in the ear on the day you have a return visit.
+ Repeated ear infections can be due to an underlying skin problem and need
investigated.
+ Remaining medicines must always be left for destruction. Either through your pharmacy or according to them
rules that apply in your municipality.
Contact us about:
+ The animal gets increased pain or itching or other ailments during the treatment.
+ Your pet again gets eye worries. In this case, do not treat with ear drops on your own,
without a prescription from a veterinarian. It can cause more harm than good.
* cleaning the ears *
To clean your pet's ear:
1. Keep the animal's head straight.
2. Hold the ear firmly by the ear base and lift gently straight up. This straightens out
the ear canal and allows the detergent to reach all the way in.
3. Keep the ear raised during the entire cleaning.
4. Fill the ear with the detergent recommended by your veterinarian until the ear is full.
5. Massage just below the ear opening with a gentle, vigorous hold for one minute.
If you hear a clucking sound, you are doing the right thing.
Let the animal shake out detergent and dirt itself.
7. Wipe the outside of the earlobe with cotton or tissue paper.
Do not dry or poke down the ear canal!
